Custom Fish Tiles
The tiles for this project were inspired by an antique, wood carved, fish mold that the client found in Japan. He envisioned using the mold to fabricate ceramic fish tiles for installation in his home. The sketch illustrated the fabrication process for the client and the ability to leave the antique mold preserved and unharmed throughout the process. The blue Synair urethane mold compound replaced the use of plaster, avoiding damage to the antique fish mold. The plaster mold needed to make the ceramic tiles was then cast from the Synair mold once it set. A blue celadon glaze was selected as the best match for the glass tiles in his kitchen. The ceramic tiles were then fabricated and provided to the client for installation.
